Senior Capstone project at Bradley University.
Showcasing Soul Citadel’s Logo, Machiavelli’s early UI art and process, and the infamous trickster demon mascot.
Machiavelli is a rouge lite city builder, now available on Steam for free!
In the theme of the darker elements of the final capstone product, the team settled with the name Soul Citadel. In reference of Machiavelli’s soul collection and the city builder gameplay.
A simple yet striking choice of a citadel in shadow to top of a floating island encapsulates both Machiavelli’s themes and the team’s enthusiasm for environmental storytelling. In the social media branding for game, the team logo utilizes the mysteriousness of the citadel and it’s clock tower for motion.

Taking into consideration of the amount of information needed when playing a city builder, a rogue lite, and the overall dark aesthetics; the majority of Machiavelli’s UI uses high contrast for clear and easy to read typography for functionality. Along with taking inspirations from games with a similar aesthetic in it’s gothic themes and gameplay.
The main focus here was idealizing the HUD, where the majority of gameplay is viewed. The majority of the created UI is retained in the final product.

The main mascot of Machiavelli, and the driving force of the game.
Creating the balance of something cute yet menacing and mischievous was the main foundations when creating the final render of the character.
The final render was used in game when the demon confronts the player about their deal. The render also was shown through promotions with a life size standee and appearances in social media and tailors.
It was a pleasure to work on Machiavelli despite my short time on the project. Seeing the final product on FUSE day and on the official Steam page was breathtaking to say the least.
